Proving that beer need not be dark to feature delicious roasty, chocolate character, this golden-coloured ale is layered with complexity. This small-batch started with our popular Smoked Peppa Pale Ale base, which we then infused with Ecuadorian Arriba Nacional cacao beans to add rich dark chocolate flavours and aromas. The slightly warming, peppery base beer has subtle smokey notes that blissfully interplay with the cacao flavours.
|Appearance:||Light amber, transparent, white head with fine bubbles and lacing.|
|Aroma:||Sweet cacao up front with peppery undertones. Mild yeast ester and apple notes. Malt present but background, no hops.|
|Flavour:||Dark chocolate including some bitter roast character. Notes of green pepper and smoke phenols that blend into the slightly sweet base beer and add a pleasant complexity underneath the chocolate character.|
|Mouthfeel:||Slightly warming, capsaicin and smoke phenols add a slight tingle that plays nicely off the medium levels of carbonation and body.|
|Malts:||77% Alberta pale malt base with in-house smoked oats (Applewood smoke), and Red Shed micro-malted Biscuit Malt from Penhold, AB.|
|Other:||Ecuadorian Arriba Nacional Cacao Nibs, in-house smoked poblano and habanero peppers (also with Applewood smoke).|
